Hello, I’m Lynh Pham Founder @ Angie’s Vietnamese Cuisine in the Venture Cafe Philadelphia-community! I’m working on building a sustainable life for my family while pursuing my passion and doing what I enjoy.
One day, when I was in the infusion room receiving chemotherapy treatments I realized I was giving all my passion and energy to organizations that didn’t see me as a person. Working over 80 hours a week as a restaurant manager for large corporations was making me sick. I spent many hours researching how to start a business during the 3 months that I received my treatments. I would bounce my ideas off my best friend Angely Cintron, who was also receiving treatments. A little over a year later, Angely unfortunately passed and I made a promise to myself that I would go after my dream. It took a few years to save up, but in May of 2021 I quit my job and dove into uncharted waters. Naming the restaurant after Angely was the easiest decision I’ve ever made.
As a visitor at Venture Café my favorite experience was being a part of the Bites of Entrepreneurship series. I was able to briefly share my story and some of my favorite foods. I got to see my children actively participate in promoting my business and see the positive impact I’ve had on them. My hope is that I can continue to connect with like-minded individuals who can support the growth of my business.
What I’m doing is awesome because I am living out my late parents’ dreams. My parents were Vietnam war refugees and they chose to leave their family and their home for better opportunities not only for themselves, but for me. I get to wake up every day and carry out their plan that never came to fruition. I get to bring my culture directly to the people through my mobile pop-up set up. My goal is to make Vietnamese cuisine approachable and accessible, which I have been able to do by offering a variety of menu options, including gluten-free and vegan options. I have always loved food and the restaurant industry is fast-paced and exciting. The biggest difference between working for someone else and owning my own restaurant is that I get to reap the rewards of my hard work.
