Shirley Posey has been an educator for eleven years, including her role as a college professor and as Johns Hopkins University CTY Sensory Brain Instructor. She has facilitated 11th grade Biology at Imhotep Institute Charter High School since 2017. Imhotep is an African Centered science, mathematics and technology-learning center. It's mission is to provide a standards driven, high quality educational program for urban learners that's grounded in the African Principles of Ma'at and the Seven Principles of Nguzo Saba. Upon arrival at Imhotep, Shirley was challenged to help increase Biology Keystone Tests Scores and to revamp the Science and STEM Department. Not only has she increased the Biology Keystone Scores significantly and Academic Performance, she has revamped the curriculum to include: Open Heart Surgery Sheep Heart Dissection, a Crime Scene Investigation Lab, Inventor Friday (students create a genetically or engineered enhanced cell to survive on Titan), Unethical Medical Practices in the United States, aquaponics labs to increase fresh crops in urban communities. Additionally, Shirley has carried the institutional essence of Reimagining Online Learning by translating all lessons into engaging online activities. She serves as the Department Chair for Science and STEM and the STEM planning coordinator for Imhotep Charter High School. She is known for her innovative and data driven approach. Shirley earned her B.S. in Biology from Clark Atlanta University and her Masters in Medical Science from Hampton University, and working on her Doctoral Degree at Johns Hopkins University in Neuroscience and Education. She is the co-founder of NeuroAdvanced Academics,Inc.,an educational firm using neuroscience based practices to enhance academic learning and to facilitate Professional Development for educators. She firmly believes that we can connect the Underserved to Higher Dimensions of Learning Through Neuroscience and Hands On Learning. Shirley is the loving mother of the brilliant and vibrant 2-year old Elizabeth Elle.
