Ryan Harris is the Founder and Program Director of "As I Plant This Seed" a nonprofit organization, currently located in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia. Ryan is a graduate of the first HBCU, Cheyney University, where he received his BS in Recreation and Leisure Management. During his time at Cheyney he was mentored by professor Dr. Julius Flynn who exposed Ryan to a world beyond his current surrounding and changed his perspective on life with new concepts and ideologies. Ryan's life was changed forever. Ryan then made it his duty to raise the level of consciousness in the youth in urban communities through various enrichment activities and programs.
In 2012 Ryan launched his two biggest events to date which is the Back 2 School event and Annual Christmas Banquet with services touching the lives of over 1000 families and over 15,000 youth. This number does not include the many other smaller events/programs that Ryan is a part of including IROC'S Annual Father Daughter dance, the Know Your Status Campaign, and the Talk To Me mentorship program just to name a few. Ryan also serves as an Executive Board Member for several local organizations including award winning non-profit, IROC and youth football team the North Philly Aztecs. His latest accomplishment was raising $30,000 to build a community center for the youth in Hunting Park.
Ryan hopes to plant a seed of education , perseverance and ultimately change the mindsets of our at risk youth on child at a time. These efforts to change the community would not be accomplished without his lord and savior JESUS CHRIST who gives him favor and the strength in numbers through family and friends to carry out the mission.
