Dr. Smith is an accomplished research leader and administrator with a demonstrated history of building high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams to answer questions at the interface of the chemical and biological sciences.

He has worked at the intersection of taste, smell, and public health for most of his career and has key experience in translating foundational research for societal impact in diverse areas such as toxicology, food science/food safety, consumer behaviour and chemical ecology.

The Monell Center is the world’s only independent, non-profit scientific institute dedicated to interdisciplinary basic research on the senses of taste and smell (based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

Founded in 1968, Monell‘s mission is to improve health and well-being by advancing the scientific understanding of taste, smell, and related senses, where our discoveries lead to improving nutritional health, diagnosing and treating disease, addressing smell and taste loss, and digitizing chemosensory data.
