Guest artist Andrea Krupp will host a host a virtual studio tour and casual discussion with curator, Angela McQuillan. Recently returned from a two-month studio residency in Iceland, cut short by the Covid-19 outbreak, Andrea reflects on the invisible but reality-shaping immensities that surround us. She is currently involved in historic and creative research about coal, Pennsylvania anthracite in particular, and its material and historical presence in our world. Imaginative investigation is central to Andrea’s creative process, and she has found that coal is an inspiring material to think through. In her current work she explores ideas about scales of time and materials, unseen things, visual and cultural transmission, and our evolving perception of what is real.
