ABOUT THE SESSION

(Link will go live on 04/15/21)

Art can be a powerful means for exploring and sharing scientific research. Multidisciplinary artist Rebecca Rutstein will speak about her work and collaborations with scientists including six expeditions at sea and two dives to the ocean floor in the Alvin submersible, with another planned in 2022. Rutstein is passionate about creating visual experiences that shed light on the natural world, engaging the public in the face of climate change. She has been an artist-in-residence at locations around the world and will share her experiences and art installations inspired by geology, microbiology and marine science. Projects presented range from painting, interactive installations and public art, and will include the making of her large mural on the AT&T Building along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. She will also talk about her recent art residency collaborating with scientists at biotech company, Integral Molecular at the UC Science Center in Philadelphia.
