Thursday Gathering 9/12

September 12, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Teal background of circles with text to introduce "Movement" as Venture Cafe Philly's September theme.

From wearables that provide us with new insights into how and where we move to transformations that in turn, create movements, we’ll be exploring innovation in motion.

3:30-4:30pm Artificial Intelligence 101 w/ Dr. Brandon Morton curated by Women in Bio | Have you heard about A.I. or artificial intelligence? Not sure exactly what it means or where to apply it? Join us for an overview of artificial intelligence and its current applications.

4:30-5:30pm Transparency in Investment: How to Communicate Effectively with Investors w/ Margaret Bradley and Victoria Fram curated by Village Capital and Ben Franklin Technology Partners | Village Capital’s Abaca investment readiness tool breaks down ‘ready for investment’ into its logical components, making what it means to be ready much more explicit and allowing investors and entrepreneurs to break through some key barriers that can mask bias. The Abaca exercise will give participants the chance to map readiness and discuss tactical strategies that both entrepreneurs and investors can use to overcome those biases.

5:30-6:30pm  Maximizing Your Thursday Gathering Experience w/Kate Srinivasan | This session is for those new to Venture Café to hear about the resources, opportunities and programming offered, have someone ask them about what they are looking to get by attending, and potentially connect them to the right person or, at least, place them on the right path.

5:30-6:45pm Friend or Foe: Breaking Down the Mystery of Using AI in Life Sciences w/ Dr. Tara Grabowsky curated by Women in Bio  | Come learn about the mystery behind machines that proofread documents, predict when a patient is ready for a new medicine, and diagnose a disease before the symptoms are conclusive. AI should not be scary, if we can improve health, and decrease the cost of healthcare.

6:00-6:30 Lane Changers: Building Frameworks for Fueling Founders w/ Eamon Gallagher (moderator), Allen King, Aron Starosta, Brigitte Daniel, and Thom Webster | Founders fuel innovation. Who fuels Founders? Innovation doesn’t happen in a vacuum. What is the fuel that empowers entrepreneurs to thrive? Hear from Lane Changers from the Science Center, Mogulette, BCK Group and serial-entrepreneur, Thom Webster as they explore these questions and identify solutions

6:30-7:30pm  IDEA to EXECUTION: Moving from Dreamer to Doer to Reinvent Your Career w/ Jumoke Dada| Are you immobilized by your thought life?
