August is the month for Mindfulness. It is quite interesting to me how so much of the narrative over the course of the last few weeks of the Olympics and much of the last year of the pandemic has been around mental health. What are you doing to improve your mental health? A key practice that happens to be the theme for this month is Mindfulness. According to Wikipedia, ‘Mindfulness is the practice of purposely bringing one’s attention in the present moment without judgement.’
In the past I’ve mentioned that meditating has always been a struggle for me. I’ve personally never been able to completely clear my mind. That being said, I love that mindfulness allows you to experience the present – even in my case if it is a passing memory that comes to the forefront of my mind. That is okay. It is about taking the time to be in the present moment.
In addition to Mindfulness, we are exploring Edtech. Join us when our uber-volunteer Neferteri Strickland, from Teaches &, curates a takeover night on August 12.
Speaking of Mindfulness, I implore you to please get vaccinated if you haven’t already done so. It not only benefits you but also the community. The faster we keep the virus from mutating into more virulent versions, the more likely we can get to a normal state in which we all want to live. If you have concerns about the vaccine, I encourage you speak with your doctor.
With the uptick in the current spread of the Delta variant, we are going to shift our Venture Café August programming to virtual-only. We are closed September 2 and intend to return in a hybrid format on September 9. We will likely require attendees show a valid vaccination card to attend in person so if you haven’t received your vaccination, please do so ASAP so you’re able to join the community in person.
