Summer is in full swing and we are finally back to celebrating the Fourth of July with our loved ones and enjoying everything our city has to offer. It has been 245 years since the Declaration of Independence was adopted and the United States broke ties with a dictatorship, and it is a time to reflect on the ways that we assert our own autonomy. To be independent is to have the freedom to live your life the way that you want to, and to believe that anything is possible if you work hard – but also have access to the right resources. Through our programming at Venture Cafe we strive to increase access to free entrepreneurial resources, because we believe that everyone should have a chance to obtain the American Dream.
This week at Venture Café, we are celebrating independence with our “Stimulate Your Startup” pitch competition. We are wrapping up our first OnRamp cohort, which had 54 first-time founders who have taken the next step in starting their own business. Ten finalists will be presenting their pitch to a group of judges for cash prizes totaling $9,000.
I have been working closely with our inaugural Founder-in-Residence Thom Webster for the past few months managing the OnRamp series, and I have truly been inspired by the amount of resourcefulness, talent and drive that our participants have shown. I can’t wait until they get to show off their work this Thursday — the judges have their work cut out for them because it is going to be a very tough decision.
See you Thursday at #HybridVCJawn
