Yesterday marked my celebration of the road back to normalcy. I am two weeks out from my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. I have to say I never thought I’d be so excited about rolling up my sleeves and getting a shot, but I feel a weight off my shoulders. If you haven’t gotten your vaccine, I urge you to get yours. By getting a vaccine you not only help yourself, but you help the community. Opinions vary among the experts as to when we will reach community (herd) immunity, but a number often cited is 70%. For context as of yesterday, Philadelphia was 31% vaccinated. Have a question or concern about getting the vaccine? Let us put you in contact with someone to discuss.
So why is it important that we reach community immunity? Because it means the virus doesn’t have any place to go to and in turn it helps to protect the most vulnerable members of our community who may, due to their fragile health be unable to be vaccinated.
We are deep in the throes of planning for #HybridVCJawn and want to do that safely so we protect you, our Venture Café Community. In the next few weeks, we will spell out our plans for what this will look like but, in the meantime, please provide us your feedback, so we can take your thoughts into consideration.
If you are like most of us, you’ve heard the buzz about Philadelphia’s Cell & Gene Therapy sectors. But what does that mean? Whether you are a scientist at a bench discovering the next breakthrough or a community member not sure why you should care, we have a session(s) designed for you this Thursday during our Cell and Gene Therapy Takeover night which is proudly part of Philly Tech Week.
